"One day I realized the truth behind the statement: We don't live
in a vacuum. Everything I do or say bumps up against somebody else.
It's true for me, and I believe it is true for everybody. If I am
asked to companion somebody in ministry, I bring both my role as a
coach and my calling to spiritual direction to the relationship. As
I coach I try to ask good questions about what is bumping up against
you and how you are contributing to the scene. As a spiritual
director, I invite (and count on) God's interest in your growth and
maturation as a child of God. It all boils down to a discovery
about how each of us can live and let others live fully. As this
happens, we thrive in our place in the Body of Christ."

Pastor Rob Henderson

Rob was first drawn to
systems thinking and the Bowen theory behind it when he attended
seminars in self discovery at Emory University in Atlanta.
Understanding systems gave Rob a wonderful way to view his own family of
origin and his time growing up in a small town in Western Ohio. In the
parish, the theory and thinking have been immensely helpful in Rob’s
being aware of his own functioning, taking appropriate stands and
helping keep the congregation mission focused. "Without the benefit
of viewing the congregation and my place in it through the lens of
systems thinking, I sometimes wonder if I could survive as a Pastor,”
says Rob.
