Lutheran Disaster Response Ohio 2008

On August 27, 2007, there were 8,717 families who were flooded in 8 counties:  Allen, Putnam, Hancock, Crawford, Wyandot, Seneca, Hardin, Richland.  Through LDR Ohio, there will be 894 homes rebuilt during 2008.

Flooding occurred on Feb. 8, 2008 and 2,544 households were impacted.  The 8 counties from Aug. 2007 were re-flooded and 6 additional counties were flooded:  Defiance, Wood, Paulding, Logan, Auglaize, Mercer.  There is no government assistance available as this flood disaster is not declared by the State of Ohio or FEMA.

  • There are 1,086 uninsured families, who will not receive any assistance in any manner.

Please share with Congregations and faith-based organizations as there is a need for education so these families may receive help.  The Northwest Ohio Synod has provided funding for 2 case managers and $3,000 for direct client assistance.  These funds will be used for furnace replacement which is an urgent need for 18 families.

Flooding has also occurred on March 18/19.  Sandusky, Erie, and Huron counties have been impacted, causing damage to over 200 homes.  There will not be any governmental assistance and many of these families do not have flood insurance.

Needs at this time are:

Donations of furniture and appliances are needed.

Skilled volunteers are needed; block layers, electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.

Monetary donations are needed for furnaces and hot water tanks.
