Northeastern Ohio Synod Congregation Website Recognition

On Saturday, December 2, 2006 four congregations in the Northeastern Ohio Synod  were recognized for their websites. Those congregations receiving honorable mention were St. Mark, Tallmadge (Tom Bilcze, webmaster) www.stmark-lutheran.org, Hope, Cleveland Heights (John Haselow, webmaster) www.hopelutheran-clehts.com, and St. John, Petersburg (Matthew Hacker, webmaster) www.stjohnpetersburg.org

Emmanuel, Elyria (Paul Jaster, webmaster) www.elc-elyria.org was recognized for having the top site and received $100 for webhosting fees.  The recognition was preceded by a presentation led by Rev. Tim Keeler (St. Michael's, Marshalville) of the synod communications committee who listed the following top ten reasons for having a congregation website:

Top Ten Reasons for Having a Congregation Website:

10.

You won't have to lick a stamp to get the word out.

9.

There's nothing to bend, fold, staple or mutilate.

8.

You won't have to curse, coax, cajole, kick or bribe the copy machine or the copy machine repairman.

7.

You won't have to wait til January 1st to announce news that happened on December 2nd.

6.

When budding photographers become famous, they can say they got their start getting shots for your site.

5.

It's a techno-geeky-"click til you drop" world out there.

4.

The new Bishop will pay you to post his/her flattering photo (or to remove an unflattering one!)

3.

Jesus is thinking about starting a daily blog.

2.

You can finally get the pastor to be on duty 24/7 to greet inquirers.

1.

If you build it, they will come!

After the presentation, Brian Brown of Emmanuel, Elyria (the top website recognized) certified the number one reason with this story.  Prior to their website people might call the church office inquiring about their preschool.  Since their website has listed the school with pertinent information and application forms they have noticed a definite change. Now parents show up at the church with preschool forms complete and they have not called the church office. Through the website and other parents directing them to the website, they are learning about the school and making the decision to apply.
