[Bishop's Election 2006] [Bishop's Election Committee] [Call and Notice of Conference Meetings]
BISHOP ELECTION COMMITEE MINUTES OCTOBER 2, 2006 NEOS OFFICE
Present: Pr. Cynthia Ishler, convener; Pr. Gwen Snell, chair; Joan Albert, Richard Miller, Pr. Paul Jaster, Pr. Steve Ritter, Fletcher Carroll, Sue Bowman.
Pr. Jaster opened the meeting with devotions from Colossians 3:12-17: Be clothed in Christ and in love. This was followed by prayer.
Pr. Ishler convened the meeting. The Rules of Procedure, reviewed by Churchwide Secretary Lowell Almen and Parliamentarian John Sleasman, were clarified. Voting members to the assembly on 12/2/06 will be asked to submit questions to be asked of the final three candidates (plus ties). These questions must be submitted by 10:30 a.m., December 2, following the second ballot. The synod Executive Committee will review and consolidate up to eight questions. Each nominee will be given 90 seconds (1-1/2 minutes) to answer, in rotating order, for a total time of approximately 40 minutes.
The committee approved the draft letter from Bishop Lee Miller, plus attachments (biographical forms) which will be sent to the potential nominees from the conference "straw votes."
All members of the Bishop Election Committee will be present at the December assembly to assist with the election process. Confidentiality by committee members of the ten potential nominees will be maintained. The synod council will release the names following their October 14 meeting.
Discussion was held regarding the conference meetings. The envelopes were then opened by the committee members, verified, and counted. A total of 367 votes were cast. Members of the committee then telephoned the top votegetters. Some were able to be reached by phone. Others will have to be called yet this week. Biographical forms must be completed and returned by October 20.
The meeting was adjourned with prayer by Pastor Ishler.
