Prayers for Bishop Election Preparation
We offer the following petitions for use in the Sunday prayers during October and November. They are offered to you by the synod’s worship subcommittee.
November 26 Let us pray for the Northeastern Ohio synod as we meet in assembly to call a bishop. Gracious God, you have called us to be the Church of your Son, Jesus Christ. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and guide the minds and hearts of the assembly that they may rightly discern your will for the Church and for this synod. Raise up among us a faithful leader who will strengthen your people with your Word and Holy Sacraments, care for them and lead them in your ways, that your Church may be equipped for ministry and proclaim your reign of justice, love and mercy to all the world. God of love, hear our prayer.
November 19 Let us pray for the ministry and mission of this synod that God would bless us and renew us through love and faithful service. Direct our thoughts and minds, that in our discernment, we may call a good and faithful bishop; that faith may abound in your holy Church and that we may bear witness to you, the creator and redeemer of all. God of love, hear our prayer.
November 12 Let us pray for this synod and give thanks for the faith and energy of our interim bishop, Lee, and for our synod staff, that they may lay their cares upon God and fear nothing except losing their redeemer. Draw our hearts to you, O Lord, that we may be renewed with your Holy Spirit, have a right judgment in all things and serve you faithfully in our calling. God of love, hear our prayer.
November 5
Let us pray for this synod as we discern the calling
of a bishop, that God would guide the hearts and minds of those who have been
named for this office. Give us your wisdom and enlighten us by the power of the
Holy Spirit. Protect us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties that we may
be faithful to our baptismal calling and in our service to you and your Church.
God of love, hear our prayer.
October 29 Let us pray for those of our synod who will meet in assembly to elect a bishop. Bless them with wisdom and discernment. Let your Spirit move within and among them mightily so that your will may be done and the church strengthened. God of love, hear our prayer.
October 22
God of love, send us your Spirit as we go through
the process of electing a new bishop. Envelop us in your love and wisdom as we
discern what you want for us and give us the courage to see more clearly the
gifts of our leaders. God of love, hear our prayer.
October 15
God of power and light, as we look for a news synod
bishop, remind us of your grace and mercy, your compassion and your sacrifice.
Remind us also that we are all called to be servants to your children
proclaiming your gospel of love and justice to those in our congregations, our
synod, and beyond. Endow those called to lead as your servant with the
same Spirit that sustains us all. God of love, hear our prayer.
October 8
God of all, open our hearts and minds to see your
will for us and give us wisdom as we elect a new bishop. May we see all women
and men presented for election as servants in your kingdom and guardians of the
faith. God of love, hear our prayer.
